TRM® Ambassador Profile – Carmen Edwards
Background:
In this weeks ambassador profile, we delve into the journey of Carmen Edwards, from Ellesmere, Shropshire. Together with his brother, Will Edwards, Carmen runs a international showjumping yard ‘Edwards Equestrian’. They are renowned for the top quality horses they produce. The yard has some amazing facilities including an arena, paddocks and good hacking roads.
Carmen’s first introduction to horses was from an early age, having always being immersed in a horsey environment all his life. With both grandparents involved in breeding and selling horses, and parents who excelled in riding, including his father’s participation in the Sydney Olympics and his mother’s in the Europeans, Carmen’s path was set from the start. While Carmen learned most of his skills at home he also got the opportunity to work alongside Marco Kutcher where he improved his flatwork and barn management. Marco Kutcher is from Germany and is reowned in the world of showjumping. He has competed at the highest levels of the sport and this was so important to Carmen’s career. He gained invaluable experience working for him.
Career Highlights:
Happy Valerie, a 12-year-old mare, holds a special place in Carmen’s heart as his top horse. He’s been with her since she was young, and their journey together has been marked by numerous standout achievements and unforgettable days in the arena.
Reflecting on Carmen’s career, his stand out moment was winning at his home show Bolesworth International in 2022. Edwards and Happy Valerie joined forces to clinch victory in the CSI2* Grand Prix, marking their debut win at the 2* level. Similarly, securing victory in the 3* Grand Prix of Peelbergen with Happy Valerie owned by Carl Edwards and Ian Kellett was a huge achievement for Carmen. At the end of 2022, the Edward brothers received the honor of representing Great Britain at the CSIO3* Nations Cup held in Vilamoura, Portugal. It marked a significant milestone in their careers as it was their debut on a Senior Nations Cup team.
Goals/Targets:
In the 2024 season, Carmen has set some goals to target. He’s eager to compete at several International shows abroad with his older horses as well as attend a lot of National shows with his young stock of horses. Additionally, he’s aiming two of his promising horses, BP Nikita, a 7-year-old, and Malou L Z, a 6-year-old, towards the prestigious World Breeding Championships for Young Horses in Lanaken scheduled for September. Carmen is particularly excited about the potential these two talented youngsters hold.
