TRM® Ambassador Profile – Greg Broderick
Background:
Greg Broderick is an Irish Showjumper based in Thurles, Co Tipperary. He has set up his own stables known as Ballypatrick Stables and is continuing to expand it. Greg first started competing at the age of 16 and this stemmed from his father Austin who trained racehorses at Ballypatrick. In recent years, Broderick has shifted focus from intense competition to coaching and breeding. At Ballypatrick stables, there facilities include a full-size indoor arena, two outdoor grass rings, paddocks, solariums and much more.
Career Highlights:
Broderick gained notable recognition when he formed a remarkable partnership with the horse MHS Going Global, bred by Ita Brennan in Co Kilkenny. This collaboration elevated both to prominence, with MHS Going Global becoming one of the highest-rated Irish Bred Showjumpers in the modern era. Broderick guided the horse from a 5-year-old to the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. Noteworthy achievements include contributing to the winning Nations Cup team at St. Gallen, securing a 4th place finish in the Longinese Grand Prix, and delivering a double clear performance in the Aga Khan at the Dublin Horse Show, contributing to the team’s victory.
Goals/Targets:
Lately, Greg has shifted his focus towards coaching and breeding. As the new season approaches, he has assembled a promising group of young riders. Among them is Niamh McEvoy, who made her senior nations cup debut in Vejer, securing victory in the 155 Grand Prix abroad Templepatrick Welcome Limmerick. Additionally, McEvoy marked her debut at the 5* level, finishing 10th at the Dublin Horse Show. Greg demonstrated his considerable coaching talent, notably with young horses, by the silver medals earned by his riders Niamh McEvoy and Leah Stack in age classes last year at Lanaken.
Ballypatrick Stables also brought forward a new idea in 2022 which was the Ballypatrick auction, offering Olympic and 5* International Pedigrees. This innovative initiative attracted buyers from diverse corners of the globe, including South America, the Netherlands, Peru, Russia, Australia, and more. The success of this venture continued into 2023, with Greg Broderick and Sophie Richards jointly overseeing the sale of the 7-year-old BP Artic Blue for €1,190,000, contributing to a collective revenue of 3.5 million. This achievement serves as a testament to the exceptional quality of horses bred and produced by Ballypatrick.
